On SmallBusiness.com, a protected page is one that can only be edited by an administrator. While the vast majority of entries on the site can be edited by users who are registered and logged in, certain pages are protected temporarily or permanently.

Temporarily protected pages

If an entry becomes the focal point of controversy or attempts to vandalization or mis-use, it will be protected temporarily until the issues can be addressed.

Permanently protected pages

Certain entries like templates that control the look of hundreds of pages, can be protected permanently.
