Congress and the White House have enacted legislation that will temporarily end the two-week government shut down and raise the national debt limit, preventing the country from defaulting on its credit. Signed by the President at 12:30 a.m., the agreement was followed by a statement issued by the OMB that nearly 800,000 furloughed government workers should report back to work, starting today.

But the agreement is only temporary, postponing decisions no longer than the current NFL football season. Under the agreement, the shutdown could start again on January 15, four days before the AFC and NFC Championship Games. The national debt ceiling was raised only to the level it is expected to reach on February 5, three days after Super Bowl XLVIII.

The agreement calls on the House and Senate to hold talks and reach some agreement by Week 15 of the regular season on a long-term blueprint for tax and spending policies over the next decade.

Las Vegas oddsmakers have yet to issue odds on the prospects for that blueprint to be agreed upon.
