In a move FedEx says will help small businesses more easily plan and control their express shipping costs, the company has announced a new flat-rate shipping service called FedEx One Rate.

Apparently the new shipping option is a response to the Priority Mail Flat Rate from the U.S. Postal Service, the rate charged to the shipper will be based on the size of free shipping boxes or envelopes provided, the delivery options selected and the distance, not on the weight of the shipment.

“Shippers can add to the box without adding to the cost,” said FedEx marketing head Raj Subramaniam.

The Flat Rate option is available for both commercial and residential recipients.
