It’s days like these when we remember why we love small business and are happy to leave the big business and big government niches to others. However, since Healthcare.gov is a project that is supposed to provide a marketplace for small businesses and individuals to compare and purchase healthcare insurance (for 36 states that didn’t create their own marketplace), this continues to be a small business story.

Today is the day when Members of Congress (you may recall them as the people who can’t keep the government opened) get to pretend they are experts in ecommerce.

Rep. Joe Pitts, R-Pa., chairman of the panel’s health subcommittee, said he wants to focus on the administration’s decision not to allow browsing, or window-shopping. That’s a standard feature of e-commerce sites, including Medicare.gov for seniors. Lack of a browsing capability forced all users to first go through the laborious process of creating accounts, overloading that part of the site. “Who made that decision? When was it made? Why was it made?” Pitts asked.
