Yesterday’s Small Business Saturday provided an especially big promotional boost for two Washington D.C. small businesses.

As they have previously, President Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha used the day to shop at a local D.C. bookstore. This year, they also stopped by another spot for a gourmet frozen treat.

At the bookstore they visited this year, Upshur Street Books, the President and first daughters purchased several books with the help of store owner Anna Thorn. (We’re guessing someone is not going to be that surprised with these gifts as the White House released a list of the books). The President and daughters then stopped by Pleasant Pops and Farm Market for some of the store’s frozen delights.

In addition to the Obama’s visits to Upshur Books and Pleasant Pops, other members of the President’s Cabinet, White House staff and agency executives shopped local and  posted photos on social media to celebrate the day. Here’s a gallery of tweets via a blog post on WhiteHouse.gov.
