We asked Austinite Summer Huggins to check in with some of her favorite small business owners for their suggestions of places to shop local for the holidays. We asked her to favor local places that have an e-commerce site so we could do some online local Austin shopping from faraway. In the coming weeks, we’ll be featuring posts from small business owners around the country who will be sharing some of their local favorites. Also, as you’ll see, our friend Summer is very into pets–as are we.

Austin is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream, a pet lover’s paradise and a musician’s constant inspiration. Austin is also a hotbed of fun, funky and fantastic small businesses. As the holiday season sneaks ever closer, we decided to speak to a couple of Austin small business owners about their own favorite small businesses for unique and local holiday gifts. Thanks to Olivia O’Neal, owner of Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop, and Blair Smith, owner of Dirty Dog, who helped us compile the following list for your holiday shopping.
